Want to know the secret to the Colonel's 11 herbs and spices? We've got the lowdown here.

Fried chicken lovers went into a flap last week when the Chicago Tribune revealed one of the fast-food world's most tightly held secrets: the 11 herbs and spices that make up KFC's original fried chicken recipe.

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, Colonel Sanders' nephew, Joe Ledington shared a scrap of paper with the ingredients scrawled on it. The food team at the Tribune put the recipe to the test, and, after a bit of trial and error (and an added sprinkle of MSG) declared it to be as good – if not better – than a bucket of KFC.

Here's the recipe in full (Ts = tablespoon)

11 Spices – Mix with 2 cups white flour

1) 2/3 Ts Salt
2) 1/2 Ts Thyme
3) 1/2 Ts Basil
4) 1/3 Ts Origino [sic]

6) 1 Ts Black Pepper
7) 1 Ts Dried Mustard
8) 4 Ts Paprika
9) 2 Ts Garlic Salt
10) 1 Ts Ground Ginger
11) 3 Ts White Pepper
