The ultimate sweet kebab, the sweet, spiced bread is perfect to mop up the sticky apple juices. All the flavours of apple pie in kebab form.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
25g unsalted butter, softened
2 dessert apples, cored and cut into 8 wedges each
5 tablespoons soft brown sugar
50ml double cream
1 plain naan bread or other thick flatbread
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon mixed spice
vanilla ice cream, to serve

Method

  1. Heat half the butter in a large non-stick frying pan over a medium heat. Once bubbling, throw in the apple wedges and cook for 5 minutes, turning frequently, until they start to take on some colour. Add 4 tablespoons of the sugar to the frying pan, increase the heat to high, shake the pan to dissolve the sugar, pour in the cream, and bubble for 2 minutes, continuing to gently shake the pan until the sauce is thick and the apples are tender. Remove from the heat.
  2. Preheat the grill to high. Sprinkle a few drops of water over the surface of the naan bread, grill for 1 minute, then flip over and grill for a further minute. Spread one side of the bread with the remaining butter. Mix the remaining tablespoon of sugar with the spices, then sprinkle over the bread. Return to the grill for 2 minutes, or until the sugar starts to crystallize. Remove from the heat, place the naan bread onto a board and pour over the sticky apple wedges. Cut into pieces and serve with a scoop of good vanilla ice cream.
