Ingredients

350g firm tofu
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablepoon sesame oil
1 garlic clove, finely minced
1/2 teaspoon caster sugar
1 teaspoon gochugaru
1 teaspoo sesame seeds
1 spring onion, finely sliced

Method

  1. Slice the tofu into 1-cm slices and pat dry.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan. Place the tofu pieces in the pan in a single layer, and fry on a medium heat for 4 minutes on each side, until golden-brown. Carefully flip over and fry for 4 minutes more.
  3. Meanwhile, mix together the soy sauce, 2 tablespoons water, sesame oil, garlic, sugar, gochugaru, sesame seeds and spring onion. Spoon the sauce over each piece of tofu, then simmer for a further 5 minutes on a low heat, until the sauce has reduced. Arrange the tofu on a small dish and serve hot or cold.
