A sour is basically the cocktail equivalent of a lemon meringue pie. A proper sour needs half a raw egg white in it, as it gives the drink its signature fluffy consistency. It’s important to shake the egg white really well – for as long as you possibly can (do take breaks if you need to). It is worth doubling the quantities, so you make two cocktails at a time with one egg white.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
50ml krupnik vodka
1 lemon, juiced
1/2 egg white
1 tablespoon runny honey or golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake for at least 5 minutes, longer if you can manage it. Serve in a short glass over ice.
