There are days when you need breakfast to be in liquid form; when haste is high and the morning calls for something you can quickly consume (often with one hand, while running a comb through your hair and feeding a small person with the other). These cinnamon coffee protein shakes are my solution. The coffee gives a bit of get-up-and-go, the flaxseed/ linseed adds fibre and the cinnamon is festive. Be sure to shake or blend it well to prevent any gritty clumps. And if you’re after a little extra ballast, a banana or some silken tofu blended through works a treat.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
375ml milk, (almond, milk, soy, cow or whatever takes your fancy)
1-2 scoops your preferred protein powder, (coffee, chocolate or neutrally flavoured is best)
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed/linseed
1 shot espresso
or 30ml strong coffee
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 ice cubes

Optional extras

Quantity Ingredient
1 banana
1 tablespoon raw cacao, (if using a neutral-tasting protein powder)
100g silken tofu

Equipment

Quantity Ingredient
a blender, that can crush ice cubes

Method

  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth. Pour it into a glass.
  2. If you prefer a little more body, add the banana and blend again until smooth. If you want an extra whack of protein, add the silken tofu. I bet on the tasting you’ll never know it was there.
