This sesame salt is not only a calcium and iron boost but it tastes great too. It’s perfect sprinkled over grains, beans and salads.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
20 teaspoons hulled sesame seeds or black sesame seeds, rinsed and drained

Method

  1. Dry-fry the sea salt in a shallow frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until it changes in colour from white to grey. Remove from the heat and transfer to a mortar.
  2. Dry-fry the sesame seeds in a shallow frying pan over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until the seeds begin to brown and pop. Remove from the heat and add to the mortar with the salt.
  3. Grind the sesame seeds and salt together with a pestle until the seeds are half crushed. Allow to cool and store in an airtight container. Keep in a dry, cool place for up to 3 weeks.
