Granita is a nice alternative to ice cream when cooking at home. It needs no special equipment and hits the sweet spot.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
750g blood oranges
1/2 lemon, juiced
60g rapadura sugar
or 60g raw cane sugar

Method

  1. Finely grate the zest of one orange, then squeeze 250 ml orange juice and squeeze the lemon half, too. Boil the sugar with 50 ml of the mixed juice, stirring until it has dissolved. Add to the rest of the juice with the orange zest and stir. Place in a shallow freezer-proof tub and cover. Put in the freezer for three or four hours until frozen. To serve, grate the block of frozen orange so that it becomes a slush.

Storage

  • The granita will be good for a month in the freezer.
