Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
250g wholemeal flour, plus extra for dusting
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil or ghee

Method

  1. Mix the flour and salt together in a large bowl. Gradually add 125ml water and the oil and bring together into a dough. Knead briefly for 1 minute until it is soft and pliable, then return to the bowl. Cover with clingfilm and leave to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a large frying pan on a medium heat and divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each out on a floured surface until no thicker than 1mm.
  3. Cook each chapatti for 1 minute on each side as you roll out the next one. If you have rolled them thinly and evenly enough, they should puff up in the pan (but this will take some practice). Keep warm while you cook the rest. Serve hot.
