Ingredients

150g masa harina

Method

  1. Using a fork, mix together the masa and 250 ml water in a bowl until well combined. It should be the consistency of Play-Doh. Portion the dough into 10 equal-sized balls.
  2. Open your tortilla press and cover the base with baking paper. Place a ball of dough in the centre and cover with another sheet of baking paper. Use the handle to firmly close the tortilla press. Open the press, turn the tortilla 180 degrees and gently press again to even out the thickness of the tortilla. Peel off the top layer of baking paper and flip the tortilla into your palm. Gently peel away the other layer of baking paper.
  3. To cook the tortillas, heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Cook each tortilla for 1 minute on each side, or until the dough is cooked through. Transfer to a plate and cover with a damp, clean tea towel to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Note

  • You can also make the tortillas with a rolling pin. Lay a piece of baking paper on a flat working surface and put the ball of dough in the centre. Cover with more baking paper, then roll out with a rolling pin to create a tortilla about 11 cm in diameter.
