Although not as popular as the ubiquitous Green chutney, this is nevertheless a deliciously herby, nutty complement to kababs and roasted meat dishes. It can also be used as a delicious dip for vegetables – an Indian tahini with spice. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to two days.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, roasted and coarsely ground
3 green chillies
large handful mint leaves
1 small onion, chopped
1 tablespoon garlic, chopped
2 tablespoons Tamarind pulp
1/2-1 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Method

  1. Put the sesame seeds, chillies, mint, onion, garlic and tamarind in a food processor and process to make a smooth paste. Transfer to a bowl, add the salt and mix together well.
  2. Serve at room temperature or chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
