This starchy fruit has a bread-like texture and a sweet taste but is used like a vegetable. It may be difficult to locate, but you might find it at Asian fruit and vegetable markets. Serve with seafood cakes.

1 small breadfruit

Method

  1. Place the whole breadfruit in the coals of a fire or on a large gas flame on the stove. Cook, turning occasionally, until blackened all over and a knife slides through it easily. Remove from the fire and cool for 5 minutes. Carefully slice off the skin to reveal the so centre.
