Recipes are synonymous with treasured memories. Nan’s cookies, Mum’s ‘special occasion’ caramel tart and Dad’s spicy fruitcake. Each warm aroma, texture and flavour hints at the love and history poured into the dish.

Family time for me has always involved cooking. The moments when we gather in one place and bring something special to the table. It’s about breaking bread and sharing all our highs and lows. It’s how I connect with the people I love and treasure the most.

Except for as long as I can remember, food never wanted me as a friend. I was at war with the meals I ate — battling endless stomach-aches, violent skin reactions and constant upsets. I felt completely exhausted and was turning into an emotional mess.

As I entered my twenties, I started taking back control. I went from doctor to naturopath, from dietician to nutritionist, desperate to find some answers.

I decided to start from the beginning and listen to my body. I stopped eating out and started cooking and baking as much as I could. I tried dairy free, gluten free, egg free, sugar free and raw. I learnt all I could about allergy-friendly cooking, through constant trial and error. And now I want to share this information with you.
