Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 dessertspoon sugar
nutmeg, grated
a little butter

Method

  1. Beat the egg slightly, add milk and sugar, pour into pie dish. Add grating of nutmeg and a few tiny pieces of butter. Place pie dish in a pan of cold water. If time allows, the custard is improved by standing in the cold water for several hours before being baked.
  2. Put pan containing dish and water in the oven at 180°C until custard is firm and brown, about 30–40 minutes. Do not let water boil.

Note

  • Other spices such as cinnamon can also be added with the nutmeg.
