Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
750g minced beef
4 spring onions, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon grated root ginger
1 small red chilli, seeded and finely diced
1 egg
100g dry breadcrumbs
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce, plus extra, for brushing
oil, for cooking
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Spinach salad

Quantity Ingredient
100g baby spinach leaves
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 tablespoon chinese rice wine
2 teaspoons sesame oil

Method

  1. Mix together the beef, spring onion, ginger, chilli, egg, breadcrumbs, sesame oil and hoisin sauce until well combined. Shape the mixture into 8 patties.
  2. Heat a barbecue grill until hot. Brush the patties lightly with oil and season with the the salt and pepper. Cook for 5–6 minutes on each side, or until cooked through, brushing with the extra hoisin sauce.
  3. Place the spinach leaves in a bowl. Mix together the sesame seeds, soy sauce, rice wine and sesame oil. Pour the dressing over the spinach and toss to combine. Serve with the patties.
