Red cabbage, with its beautiful colour, just seems to say ‘Christmas’. Adding apples gives this dish a festive element.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
60g butter
1/2 red cabbage, finely shredded
1 tablespoon red or white wine vinegar
2 apples, peeled and cut into thick slices
1 tablespoon sugar
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to season

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a heavy-based saucepan with a tight-fitting lid over a gentle heat. Add the shredded cabbage and vinegar, apples and sugar. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Cover the pan and cook for 30 minutes. Serve hot.
