Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
450g plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
230g caster sugar
125g walnut pieces
1 egg, beaten
250ml milk

Method

  1. Sift flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl. Add sugar and walnuts, then stir in egg and milk. Mix until smooth.
  2. Turn into two 21 × 11 cm greased loaf tins. Bake in a preheated moderate oven (180°C) for 45 minutes or until a skewer inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Serve sliced with butter, and cheese if desired.
