Invented for the opening of New York’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, waldorf salad has become a classic, especially good with ham and chicken.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
3 green and red apples, unpeeled, cored and diced
125g celery, diced
185g * mayonnaise [rid:4557]
freshly ground black pepper
60g walnut pieces
salt

Method

  1. Mix apples and celery in a bowl, add mayonnaise and fold through. Season, add walnuts and fold through. Turn into a salad bowl and serve at once.

Variation

  • Waldorf salad with sour cream: Follow recipe above, but use 125 g sour cream and 60 g mayonnaise for the dressing.
