A strong drink; Scots keep it on hand to buck the spirits!

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
170ml oatmeal
170ml water
2 tablespoons honey
1 litre scotch whisky

Method

  1. Put oatmeal into a bowl and mix with water until it is a thick paste. Allow to stand for 30 minutes, then drain off liquid, pressing down well with a spoon so that oatmeal is quite dry. Discard oatmeal.
  2. Combine liquid and honey, stirring until well blended. Pour into two 750 ml bottles and fill up with whisky. Cork well. Shake before using.

Variation

  • A pleasant dessert can be made by pouring 2 tablespoons liquid Atholl Brose into tall glasses, and topping up with whipped cream. Chill and serve sprinkled with oatmeal that has been toasted in a dry hot frying pan for a few minutes or until crisp, stirring frequently, to give a nutty flavour.
