Ingredients

750g minced steak
40g green or red peppers, diced
1 small onion, finely chopped
90g mushrooms, finely chopped
60g cheese, grated
1 tablespoon tomato sauce
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
40g fresh breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
double quantity Scones, unbaked
milk, to glaze

Method

  1. Mix steak with vegetables, cheese, sauces, breadcrumbs, egg, salt and pepper. Press into bottom of a greased, shallow square or rectangular baking dish to make a layer about 2 cm thick.
  2. Pat out scone dough to size of dish and place on meat mixture. Brush with milk and bake in a preheated hot oven (220°C) for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to moderate (180°C) and continue baking for 20–25 minutes. Cut into squares to serve.
