An unusual but delicious cake. Serve as a dessert or as a tea time treat.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
235g poppy seeds
6 eggs, separated
220g sugar
95g mixed glace peel, chopped
1 teaspoon ground allspice
cream, whipped

Method

  1. Grind poppy seeds in blender. Beat egg yolks until thick, then gradually add sugar and continue beating until very thick and pale. Stir in peel, allspice and poppy seeds. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into yolk mixture.
  2. Pour mixture into a greased and floured 23 cm springform tin. Bake in a preheated moderate oven for about 50 minutes. Allow cake to cool in tin, then remove sides. Spread top with whipped cream before serving.
