Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
300g self-raising flour
pinch salt
45g butter
2 eggs, beaten
milk

Syrup

Quantity Ingredient
500ml water
75g sugar
2 tablespoons golden syrup
30g butter

Method

  1. Sift flour and salt and rub in butter. Add eggs and stir in with a knife, adding enough milk to make a soft dough. Divide dough into 12 pieces and roll into balls.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat water with sugar and golden syrup, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add butter and bring to the boil. Place dumplings in syrup, cover and simmer for 20 minutes without lifting lid. Serve dumplings at once, with syrup spooned over them. Serve with custard or cream.
