Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
30g butter or ghee
1 tablespoon curry powder
2 ripe tomatoes, peeled and diced
500g stewing steak, cubed
125ml milk
2 teaspoons lemon juice
salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons sugar

Method

  1. Fry onion with garlic in butter or ghee for 3–4 minutes. Add curry powder and fry for a further 2 minutes. Add tomatoes and meat with just enough water to barely cover meat.
  2. Simmer very gently for about 1½ hours or until meat is tender. Stir in milk and lemon juice, season to taste and add sugar. Serve with boiled rice and accompaniments.
