Papoutsakia means ‘little shoes’ in Greek, no doubt a reference to the appearance of this dish. It is one of the many ladera (pronounced lathera) dishes, cooked with lots of good olive oil and served as a main course. Thomas ‘Please’ was justly proud of his version as well as the meat-free version, Iman bayildi, which translates as ‘The prophet fainted’, a reference to how delicious it is.
