This is a very simple and great pasta dish if you love anchovies. I have added some almonds to the recipe, and I hope it won’t offend any Croatians. Traditionally, pasta similar to spaghetti was made at home in a brass press. I don’t think many people still make it at home, since buying spaghetti from the supermarket is a lot less time-consuming.

Ingredients

300 grams spaghetti, or any long thin pasta
3 garlic cloves, crushed
100ml extra virgin olive oil
10 anchovies, chopped
10 almonds, chopped
1/2 brown onion, finely chopped
1 red chilli
3 tablespoon dry breadcrumbs
1 tablespoon capers
2 tablespoons fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped
sea salt
freshly ground black pepper

Method

  1. Cook the pasta in a large saucepan of boiling salted water until al dente.
  2. Sauté the garlic in the olive oil in a large frying pan over high heat for a few seconds until the garlic just starts to cook, but not colour. Add the anchovies, almonds, onion and chilli. Sauté over low heat until the onion is translucent and the anchovies break up. Add the breadcrumbs and sauté for 1 minute, then add the capers and parsley. Add the cooked, drained pasta, mix well, season and serve.
