Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
8 oranges
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup brandy
2 tablespoons grand marnier
star anise, for garnish (optional)
cinnamon sticks, for garnish (optional)

Method

  1. Peel the oranges, being sure to remove all the bitter white pith. Slice the oranges crosswise into thin slices, or cut them into segments. Place in a serving bowl.
  2. Put the sugar in a saucepan with 2 cups water and stir over low heat until dissolved. Bring to the boil and allow to boil for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Remove the syrup from the heat and allow to cool. Stir in the brandy and Grand Marnier, then pour the syrup over the oranges.
  4. Refrigerate until cool, or overnight if preferred.
