There’s the story of the pickleback originating in Philadelphia, and then there’s the Brooklyn one – where Reggie Cunningham from Bushwick Country Club bar in Brooklyn, NYC, was storing pickles for McClure’s when the pickling company first started up. Story is that a girl asked for a shot of the juice alongside her whiskey. Reggie drank a couple, it cured both his cold and hangover, and a new drink was born. How it works: you shoot a shot of whiskey, and you chase it with a shot of brine. The pickle brine works magically to neutralise the burn of the alcohol.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 shot good-quality whiskey
cucamelon cornichon, to garnish
1 shot pickle juice of choice, strained

Method

  1. Garnish your shot glass with a Cucamelon Cornichon.
  2. Shoot the whiskey, chase it with the pickle juice.
