This toastie is best made in a toasted sandwich maker like a Breville. Beans like to escape and create a bean mess all over your pan. Don’t let this put you off, though, as this is up there as one of the best toasted sandwiches ever. Please note that the beans come out very hot from the toastie machine, so let the melt cool for at least a minute or two before biting into it.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 tablespoon butter, at room temperature
2 medium slices white bread
30g baked beans
30g grated mature cheddar
sea salt
freshly ground black pepper

Method

  1. Heat up the toasted sandwich maker.
  2. Meanwhile, butter the bread on one side, then lay the slices butter-side down. Carefully spoon the baked beans onto one slice of the bread, sprinkle the cheese on top and season. Lay the other slice over the cheese with the butter side facing up and carefully transfer the sandwich into the machine.
  3. Cook for 5 minutes or until the sandwich maker indicates the toastie is ready. Take the melt out and let it sit for at least 1–2 minutes to cool down slightly. Enjoy!

best bread:

  • medium sliced white
