Plátanos are moreish chips made from plantain, a type of large banana that is cooked when green to achieve a delicious flavour. These snacks are great with a cold beer on a hot day.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons chilli powder
125ml vegetable oil, for frying
4 plantains
or 4 unripe bananas

Method

  1. Place the salt and chilli powder in a glass jar with a lid. Close the jar and shake until the mixture is combined.
  2. Peel the plaintains and slice them lengthways into 5 mm-thick slices.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over a high heat. Fry 4–5 slices at a time for a few minutes or until just golden. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Sprinkle with the salt–chilli mixture and serve immediately.
