‘You know we’re charging $30 a quart for Champagne and you know it isn’t Champagne. Tell your young lady to take gin and like it.’

Texas Guinan

Ladies of the 1920s were not only free to go to speakeasies, they also ran several of them. The most famous was the silent film actress ‘Texas’ Guinan, whose 300 Club played host to the most famous actors and the most powerful elite members of society. She famously greeted all her guests with, ‘Hello, suckers!’

The clover club, always a hit with the dames, was one of the most popular cocktails of the day.

A collection of drinks made with something sweet, something sour and something gin.
