This drink tastes a bit like a snake, not the kind that slithers but the jubey kind of confectionery snake. Just imagine one of those with the sugar turned down, made from natural ingredients and full of alcohol. I’m not sure how it even made it into this book. On the menu I talk about it containing ‘mystery vodka’, which is, of course, gin! We do use a Latvian gin, but it is still not vodka. All the other cocktails contain vodka in one form or other. This cocktail is so incredibly delicious that we have had to ignore all the rules and pretend for a second that gin is vodka and that love without pain is possible.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
30ml gin
30ml massenez crème à la fraise des bois
1/2 lemon, juiced
a dash fee brothers orange bitters, (optional)
strip orange zest, to garnish

Method

  1. Put the gin, strawberry liqueur, lemon juice and orange bitters, if using, into a shaker over ice and shake for 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with orange zest. This drink is named after the song of the same name by the Brothers Johnson, which I have played many times to people drinking it for the first time. It will seem ridiculously cheesy if you listen without the drink in your hand.

Note

  • The song may actually seem ridiculously cheesy with the drink in your hand.
