Nalewki are made by macerating ingredients in vodka or Spirytus. They are then typically aged from anywhere between a month and several years, sometimes in oak barrels. Of those listed here, only the Pineapple Vodka and the Cherries in Liqueur are sufficiently aged to really qualify as nalewki. Also the term nalewka is under application to become a controlled appellation in the EU. If the EU ratifies this, the name will thereafter only be applicable to products produced in Poland. Nalewki are produced with great skill in Poland and it has been so in some cases for hundreds of years. Most of the vodkas that we import for the vodka bar are actually nalewki. When we do make infusions, they tend to be quite simple affairs that we utilise for specific cocktails — the Cucumber Vodka isn’t even infused!
