The cinnamon in this compote gives it a delicious apple-pie flavour. Serve the compote with yoghurt or ice cream, or try it chilled and spread onto buttered bread.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
700g granny smith apples, peeled, cored and chopped into 1 cm cubes
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 tablespoons water
8 tablespoons caster sugar

Method

  1. Heat the apples, cinnamon, water and half of the sugar in a saucepan with a lid. Bring to the boil and then simmer over a low heat, shaking the pan occasionally to make sure that the fruit doesn’t stick to the bottom. Cook the mixture for 20 minutes, or until the apples are soft. Taste the compote and add the remaining sugar if it is needed. Set aside to cool.
  2. Using a food processor, blend the mixture to a smooth texture, then divide between two clean jars. Seal and store in the fridge and eat within a week.
