Before you launch into making your pop stars, you’ll need to perfect the basic body. The main difference between the ladies and gents is this: ladies have … er … boobs! All of the recipes create six character pops, so increase the quantities if you want to make more.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
6 Amaze balls
200g candy melts, for the skin tone. Tto make the colour for this pop we mixed: 170 g white, 20 g pink and 10 g yellow
microwave
2 microwave-safe plastic bowls
6 lollipop sticks
polystyrene block
200g candy melts, for the body
sunflower oil

Method

  1. Break a basic cake ball into two pieces – one about twice the size of the other.
  2. Roll the larger piece into a ball to create the head and the smaller piece into a cylinder to create the body.
  3. For lady pops, take some dough from the body and make two small balls to create boobs!
  4. Chill everything in the fridge for around 10 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the candy melts in the plastic bowl according to the instructions on the packet. You can experiment and create your own skin tones by mixing different coloured candy melts together or simply use them in the colours they come in.
  5. Attach the head, body (and boobs if using) with a small amount of candy melts and leave to set in the fridge for a minute or two.
  6. If the body and head are the same colour, dip the lollipop sticks, one by one, about 1 cm into the melted candy melts and push into the bottom of each body, until about halfway into the head. Set aside to dry. Then dip each pop all the way into the candy melts so that the head and body are completely covered, tap off the excess and stand in a polystyrene block to dry.
  7. If you want the body to be a different colour to the head, dip the body feet-first up to the neck in your chosen body colour (we used red). Then insert the lollipop sticks as in step 6. Set aside to dry before dipping the heads in your chosen skin colour. Tap off any excess and stand in a polystyrene block to dry.
  8. Now you’re ready to add features, hair, clothes and accessories!
