Lustre dust is an edible powdered food colouring that comes in little pots or tubes. I love using it as a paint to give an intense shimmery gold colour to pecans, other nuts and fondant decorations. You can also use this technique to paint onto fondant-covered cakes.

Method

  1. Add a few drops of rejuvenator spirit or vodka to a small amount of lustre dust and mix with a paintbrush to form a smooth paste.
  2. Place the pecans on a baking tray or some baking parchment and paint with the edible paint. Set aside to dry for a few minutes. If your paint dries out, just add a few more drops of alcohol.
