Method

  1. For a swirl-effect finish, start by covering your cake with a thick and smooth layer of buttercream. If you have a turntable, gently press the surface of buttercream with a clean palette knife held at a 45-degree angle and turn the cake, moving your hand slowly upwards as you turn. If you don’t have a turntable, move your hand around the circumference of the cake slowly working your way from bottom to top. You can also make vertical strips with your palette knife starting from the bottom and finishing at the top.
