Salt herring with soured cream, onion and apples

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
8-12 small potatoes, peeled
salt
1 crisp, green dessert apple
4 fillets schmaltz herring, not too salty
1 onion, thinly sliced
8 tablespoons soured cream

Method

  1. Cook the potatoes in boiling salted water until just tender, then drain. Thinly slice the apple.
  2. Arrange the herring fillets on serving plates along with the apple and onion slices. Add the warm potatoes and drizzle the soured cream on top. Serve with a good glass of schnapps.
