Sticky rice is ideal for soaking up the juices of your favourite dishes at the end of a meal.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
3 cups glutinous rice
1 teaspoon salt
Peanut and sesame

Method

  1. Soak the rice in cold water for a minimum of 4 hours. (If it is more convenient, you can soak it overnight.)
  2. Drain and rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear.
  3. Sprinkle the rice with salt and place it in a steamer lined with muslin cloth. Cover and steam for 30 minutes. Remove the lid from the steamer, and check that the rice is cooked (when cooked, rice should be tender all the way through).
  4. Serve immediately, or cover with a damp cloth to prevent the rice from drying out and hardening.
  5. Eat the rice with your fingers, dipping it into the peanut and sesame.
